On friday,May 31st 2002, Brandywine met Kapalaea on the first
game of the afternoon. After 4 chukkers, with no time left on the clock,
Kapalaea had a chance to win with a penalty 3. With a miss, the game went on to
sudden death overtime. Brandywine had a penalty 3 in the first few seconds of
the overtime chukker. A missed shot to goal was all Kapalaea needed to go all
the way across the arena, where a penalty 4 was called by umpire Herman Louis
Decoite. Kapalaea scored and earned a trip to the finals.
The second game featured the Silver bullets vs. Polo Lio. A
high scoring game was expected and the spectators were treated to a great game
of polo. Young Ka'aina Decoite and his teammates prevailed at the end, with a
score of 10 to 9 over Joey Brittain. The Finals would see Kapalaea vs. Polo Lio,
facing each other at the Haleakala Ranch Arena.
On Sunday, June 2nd.The first game was postponed due to rain.
After waiting a few hours, the skies over Haleakala showed a little bit of blue,
and it was decided to go ahead with the finals. Some rain fell during the
chukkers, footing was never a problem and at the end of the 4 th chukker,
Kapalaea had the lead 10 to 9.
Congratulations to all players who participated in this
tournament. All of you made this USPA tournament a success!!!
Stay tuned for 2 more USPA tournaments coming up in the next
few weeks.

never more than 1 or 2 goals difference.
Congratulations to Knox Weymouth on winning the MVP award!! He
played well above his handicap and he deserved to have his name inscribed among
some of Maui Polo Club's greatest players.
On behalf of the Club, I would like to say once again Thank
you to the Rice and Peterson Families for Sponsoring a great day of polo that
has become a tradition, a must see game, at Maui Polo Club.

After the Friday round robin, all teams had a good chance of
winning the tournament. Continuing play on Sunday, after 6 great chukers of
arena polo, Maui Mountain Cruisers had the edge, with two wins and no losses.
Although they did not look to be the strongest team on Friday, great individual
efforts by all 3 players on Sunday proved to be more than enough to take home
the coveted Sherman Memorial award. Congratulations to all players that
participated, and especially to the champions!!!
Coming up: The Manoa Cup, on Fathers day.
